Folder and file names
Album labels, box names, and filenames like Jul89_001.jpg can anchor photos that have few visual clues.
For Your Scanned Family Photos
Timeline Scan automatically sorts your existing scanned photos by when they were originally taken
Have a box of prints first? Drop them off in Lehi, Utah →
Four steps. No technical knowledge needed.
Drag your scanned photos straight into the dashboard — the whole shoebox, all at once. We accept JPEG and TIFF.
Any archive size, from a single envelope to decades of boxes.
We group every face we find — you just add a name and a birth year. That single hint anchors decades of guesses to a real person.
Optional, but it makes the dating noticeably sharper.
Behind the scenes our model reads each archive in bulk — locating timestamps, deciphering handwriting on the back, and cross-referencing the faces you've named. You can close the tab; we'll email when it's done.
Typical archive: a few hours, occasionally up to 48.
Download the same files you uploaded — pixels untouched — sorted oldest to newest, with the restored dates baked into EXIF metadata. Drop them into Google Photos, Apple Photos, Immich, or whatever you use, and each one lands in the right year.
No account lock-in. Your archive, yours forever.
Date estimation
Timeline Scan does not rely on one clue. We combine the evidence around each scan, then use the strongest signals to place the photo near its real moment in time.
Album labels, box names, and filenames like Jul89_001.jpg can anchor photos that have few visual clues.
Printed date stamps, lab marks, and faint back-of-photo timestamps often narrow the estimate faster than visual clues alone.
Handwritten dates, names, places, and captions are read and used as direct evidence when they are present.
Known people, birth years, and apparent ages help rule out years that do not fit the people in the photo.
Clothing, hairstyles, cars, decor, print borders, color, and film character all help identify the likely era.
Photos scanned in alphabetical order often belong together, so nearby files can give useful context to each other.
Scanned photos show in your timeline on the date they were scanned, not when they were taken. That means every photo from a scanning session piles up in the same spot. A wall of decades-old memories wedged right in the middle of your library.
Your photo library without Timeline Scan
Hard to find. Hard to enjoy. Just sitting there, out of time.
Optional · for Google Photos users
If your library is Google Photos, skip the ZIP altogether. Connect your Google account once and we'll drop your dated archive into a fresh album — in date order, with the EXIF dates we restored baked in. No download, no second upload from your device.
